Pastor Dave Mertz, our humble spiritual leader has us studying 1Corinthians 13 as a group this week. The first verse rang loudly this morning due to fact that at 430 am the Buddhist temple across the fence from us started the day by broadcasting what sounded like carnival music, or maybe like what you wold hear as an ice cream truck plays as they roll through the neighborhood. I think it was to wake the Monks up (and the Hotel guests next door) That played for about 30 minutes then the chanting on the PA system started. So, while up we decided to start our study and of course what was the first verse?
Yesterday as we walked among the ruins of the early temples of Angkor Wat our tour guide told us the temples were Buddist, then the government changed and wanted all the Buddas removed or altered to represent Hindus. Then a "crazy king" took over and wanted it all gone. The people here are very kind and respectful. It seems that one thing that is universal in these religions is that people are seeking something bigger than themselves to find happiness. If only they knew that the true God gives that promise with just belief in Jesus. The true joy follows.
